Under 16s v Bushloe

a quiet opening to the game as the lads are not switched on . scooter , dan and ash are more worried about wearing hairbands than playing footy .the 1st half is jus silly , no movement or passing . the highlight is a good move down the right finished by ash cockram .

after the rollicking of all rollickings the boys at least look more serious . because we've been so poor , it's hard to get going .we're never gunna lose , but we want to win in style . luuuuke an dan start to play , a cross comes over an super skip nets his 21st goal in 21 matches . we wake up and adjust the team . scooter goes up front , not cuz he's any good , but he cares and starts to drive us on . we start to respond . tuggle is awesome at the back , diddy dave comes on in the holding role . skip starts pushing . dezza is playing his best game for a while , holding the ball , an occasional run , but more importantly bringing adam into play . a foul 40 yards out causes a murmer as luuuuuke steps up to take the freekick . he bends it like beckham into the top corner to make it 3-0 . super sub matt deacon lets fly with a belter and then gets another just before the final whistle.

Enderby 3-5 Under 16s (16 Mar 08)

a strange 1st half really , they went ahead but we were fighting the wind . we were the best team and at last we had remembered that we fight . and we did fight. i knew it was coming and it did with a typical matty walden bullet from the corner . a bit of sloppiness gave them a second before half time , but i was never worried , i knew we had turned up today .

an inspirational team talk and the wind behind us quickly brought the equaliser from super skip . then it was all 1 way traffic . a dan marlow free kick flew in to make it 3-2 then super skip nailed another beauty from 40 yards for his hatrick . our general play was superb , we could have had 10 by now . scott draycott was awesome, grant fought and chased , tug is makelele , diddy david vyce was a revelation ( david mascherano vyce ) , adam is the overlapping fullback england need , blake showed what a cf does and ash cockram is back chasing and making things happen . then we come to luuuuke , what a game he had ! should have scored but who cares , great performance . tp and dezza came on and done good , jason was good in goal , big ben was a brilliant cheerleader to show the team spirit . matty got a fourth , they got a token goal but it could have been 10-3

remember the work , we're fit for a reason , lets end this season loud and proud !

Birstall v Anstey

one of those days ! we were playing a team who wanted it , and we didn't .
early shock as anstey score in the 3rd minute meaning it's up hill from now on . anstey fight hard , we waste chance after chance . luckily adam garrett , having another great game , goes on a run past 3 defenders and slots in the equaliser . yes it's all BU, but our good players are freezing,rushing everything, not passing the ball.

a half time roasting looks to have done the trick as a ball over the top sends dan marlow through for the 2nd goal . anstey are fighting, but we're not . we make chance after chance but the edge is not there . players are hiding so the composure is missing . 50 - 50's are won by anstey . anstey equalise, quite deservedly and our heads are down . no one to blame as an average outfit turn us over.

BUJFC v Shepshed (10 Feb 08)

a funny old game where the really big win was on . a slow start , but there was only one team gunna win , but by how many ? sarjo, dan , sarjo again with ash getting one before half time . it was quiet , we missed ten clear cut chances so it seemed strange to be 4 up and not that pleased.

keeping up the pressure was the order , and don't encourage them . so the ref gives um a peno for nothing ! ben saves easily . it wakes us up a little bit as we continue to miss more and more chances . dan gets another with skip adding the last . our highest ever victory , but look how we've moved on , disappointed it wasn't more.

Birstall v Queniborough (27 Jan 08)

well it was a cold and windy day to play the league leaders . the last time we played them we lost 9-1 , so it was going to be interesting . and it was . queni were strong , big lads who meant it .

unfortunately we sat back and watched them , but as the game progressed we started to maybe believe . we made the chances , dan the man forcing them back , luuuuuuuuuke going on a great run , super skip winning the big battle in the middle . ask cockram and blake sarjo should have scored , it was our purple patch , but it was just that little bit of confidence or class short . we pushed but they were strong and scored , the scrappiest, silly goal that bounced ten times through the crowd .they thought they were on the way to more , but the bu boys were starting to believe .chances wise we win the 1st half 5-1 , but its goals that count .

they bring on the really good kid and become more of a threat . we are realising that they are only human and again make chance after chance . queni are strong and are winning the 50-50's but they create nothing . it's frustrating because we are so close . there is only 1 team who will score , but it just won't happen .

results now drop us down to third , but we now embark on a 7 game run to be unbeaten , no talk about next year ! remember the good stuff .

blake becoming the complete cf; ash finally terrorising defenders; super skip doing the captain , avin him in his pocket; grant coping with the best player in the league; adam outstanding; luuuuuke pushing ppl back and running for fun; dan the man scaring um to death; scoot being the power at the back; deaco shrugging off all his injuries , powering his way back; tuggle , strong and back to his best for the team; big ben playing with a broken ankle and still safe.

we had a bench with miten prepared to chase , tp would play anywhere and do his work , david came on and didn't look out of place, dezza trying to find the killer pass .

 

Kegworth 2-2 Under 16s (6 Jan 08)

first match of the new year , and it's business as usual . a bright start from the boys , a passintg movement with dan the man marlow sending the ball down the line for super skip matty walden to fire over a cross that was too hot for the keeper and blake sargeant was there to smash it in . it remains tight with another bu goal disallowed due to a shocking decision by their linesman . scoot draycott grant hargrave and adam garrett are comfortable at the back, liam derry is trying to find the right passes but it's getting lively and hard to play the football .

we knew it would happen and they did not disappoint . the home team came out flying , it's all kegworth . attack after attack and some generous decisions from the ref , create pressure . it looks inevitable but big ben achurch is in a determined mood , james tuggle turrell is hanging in there on his man marking job . they bring on the their top goalscorer and it seems to boost them . they get the equaliser , then 5 minutes later they go ahead . miten mayhem mistry is on now to bother the defence , a tactical switch brings ash cockram back and he starts to probe . the game is end to end but time is running out . the ref tells us that there's a minute to go and we get a corner . everyone is in the box , it's a tense situation . the ball comes over , into the pack around the penalty spot . guess what !! super skip matty walden climbs the highest and powers a header into the net ! fantastic equaliser and fully deserved .

bufc 1-0 gaunt (16 Dec 07)

right from the off the scene was set . james turrell banged in a big challenge , we were up for it . we fought all over the park . super skip matty walden was everywhere , liam dezza derry was slotting defence splitting passes for fun , dan the man marlow was turning , chasing and harassing the defenders , blake sarjo sargeant was having his best game in the shirt .
what help the most was the giant brick wall that gaunt came up against . scott scoot draycott , grant rambo hargrave , tp , and tug tug tuggle were rock solid monsters .
from that strength we were able to build and play the football . the best move and finish to be seen anywhere this weekend started from the back . powerful running from superskip , a run from dan , sublime pass from dezza , with a beautiful slot into the net from sarjo .it didn't end there , although not yet mentioned we had secret weapons , flying fullbacks !! great credit goes to luuuuuuuuuke shawley and adam crusher garrett , they prodded and probed , and luuuuuuuke gave the performance of a gary neville/micah richards standard .

after a talking to , gaunt came out with a purpose , nearly caught us out but scoot was covering , looking after us like a big brother would look after his sister if boys were showing an interest in her . rambo and tug became battering rams . bu peppered the goal missing chance after chance , hitting the post 7 times, the keeper pulling off some great saves .they made changes , but the tactical genius spotted it and reacted , tp was off an ash cockram came on to chase the ball down up front , keep the ball and support sarjo . we continued to create chance after chance , but it was still only 1-0 . they were still encouraged and were not giving up .
a couple of mighty moments stand out . luuuuuuke making the saving tackle then running at pace the length of the field to say to the lads , we're not losing this . then big ben achurch coming out to his full 7foot height catching the ball to save the day then launching yet another attack . dan the man goes of after a kick in the nuts and deaco comes on to settle things down , superskip and dezza begin to get on the ball and play the footy . it's all over for gaunt , they get absolutely thrashed 1-0 .
we were too fit , too strong , too disciplined , too good !!!

bushloe v birstall (25 Nov 07)

well , it was a very sluggish start . the boys should be buzzin , but maybe they have forgot that they have got where they are because they have to work hard , chase and fight as underdogs . the manager is reminding them that they are not as good as they think , make sure you don't get carried away with the little bit of success we have had , and remember that we might not be as talented as some teams , but we have more heart and spirit than most , which is why i resist signing more players on because i want these lads playing with pride and passion in order to earn the success that they deserve .

the game has that feel about it . with james turrell in the makelele role , we're expecting to burst through from midfield . but it's sloppy , play is broken up easily , the passing is poor . it takes time for scott draycott and grant hargrave to organise themselves at the back . ash cockram , on his return from suspension , has a stinker , even the reliable dan marlow and blake sargeant are out of sorts . obviously matt walden is winning balls and liam derry is trying to move it around , but we encourage the home team with our lack of urgency .halfway through the 1st half , the one shining light emerges . big adam garrett and luuuuuke shawley are frustrated with whats in front of them , and become flying fullbacks . luuuuuke especially, goes on the run , and is unlucky not to score .did i mention that the ref is shocking ? well , he proves it by giving us a penalty for nothing , obviously super skip steps up confidently , and slots it into the bottom corner .

we start the 2nd half brightly , the few chosen words and a decisive substitution show how this bright young manager is getting such a reputation . matt deacon on , back after his long injury nightmare ( ambulance was waiting round the corner ) , begins to probe down the right .dan marlow on the left has decided to have a game and blake sargeant has finally moved from the centre circle . did i mention that the ref was shocking , well a ball through from bushloe is heading for the area , so scoot stays strong , holds the player off for the keeper to collect . astonishingly , he gives a pen . big ben achurch gets a hand to it , but it goes in . stung by the injustice the boys push on , but bushloe are encouraged . dezza threads through some beauties , super skip rampages all over the pitch , dan the man begins to fly , sarjo starts to show his class . luuuuuke and big ads are ensuring the front boys the freedom to go forward with their very impressive displays and scott and grant have decided to start banging the ball back . it's all birstall , but it needs a tactical masterstroke to break the deadlock . so on comes miten mayhem mistry for tug . the safety net has gone , but the boys dont need it . deaco begins to pepper the goal with shots , dezza shoots , matt forces his way through , dan backs him up , mayhem is everywhere, blake shows his silky touches . the move of the match comes , sarjo to mayhem , to skip , to dezza , to dan , to deaco , to mayhem , then to sarjo in the box , he faints to shoot one way , then slots it into the net . the game is killed off , only one team in it . big ben launches a long throw to the half way line , mayhem picks it up and turns , dan the man is already flying past him screaming for the ball , he gets the pass , takes it forward at lightening speed and smashes it into the net . a wonderful finish to the game for the lads to remember how it's done . 2nd in the table !

Loughborough fc v Birstall Utd (18 Nov 07)

well the boys are back on the travels again , and what a horrible day ! driving , freezing cold rain

the whistle goes and we continue as we ended the last game , we are up for it !
l'boro's slick passing game is broken up by the mighty bu midfield . we push and probe , jason corrall down the left and dan " the man " marlow down the right are ripping them apart . the inevital happens , and it's from the usual source .jj links with sarjo , onto dezza , then to dan , a ball in and super skip matty walden slides the ball into the net . l'boro are a good team and are stung by the goal . despite their good play , the bu boys push . scott draycott is sweeping at the back , grant hargrave continues to batter the forwards , big adam garrett again shows his class and power , diddy david vyce bobs and weaves to repel the attacks . but the glory boys , with the back up from tp and liam derry and the outstanding defence ,are on fire . jj corrall , dan the man and blake sargeant , combine again for a ball whipped over and guess who , matt " lampard " walden powers it into the net . it's tight , but bu going forward are too good . as the rain drives in and the cold picks up , a typical move develops . a towering goal kick from the cool and calm ben achurch , is collected by jj , a turn and twist sends the ball into the box and you know who glances in a header for his hatrick .

the second half is sloppy , we're not on the front foot . l'boro are not lying down and make inroads . it's closer than it should be .ash cockram comes on for jj , it works with the fresh legs , but l'boro have their tails up .another shocking penalty decision by the ref gets l'boro a goal . sarjo is injured so miten mayhem mistry comes on . it should work , and there are great links with ash , but it's not quite happening . we encourage them on to us . a defining moment , they break through , there's indecision , the forward bangs it towards the far corner . the suddenly , a big giant hand tips the ball away from a certain goal , ben achurch saves us . almost from that move the boys realise we are not losing . with minutes to go , mayhem links with ash cockram . he lays it inside to dezza who turns and lays a beauty in for dan the man . he meets the pass at pace and takes a touch,
then smashes it into the bottom corner of the net . a deserved end to a great team performance .

on a cold afternoon , the boys started quickly . its all birstall . good interchanges between liam derry and super skip matt walden realease jason corrall into the box , he weaves past 2 defenders before laying it to blake sarjo to bang it in to the bottom corner . the boys push on , matt deaco on his return from a long injury probes down the right , tom pell holds the middle well , and the back 4 of dave vyce , grant hargrave , scott draycott and big adam garrett are strong . its all birstall , sarjo an jason coming close , super skip driving through , even liam trying a long range effort . but the missed chances are leaving mountsorrel in the game . a long punt up front becomes a race to the ball , and although scott draycott gets there first , the ref commits a howler , and gives the pen . despite a great dive by ben achurch , they score just before the whistle .

determination is the look on our faces . we grind our way back . grant is winning anything they throw at us , scott is sweeping behind with ease , david and big adam are banging back the ball , tackles flying all over the place . more importantly , we're holding the ball , getting it down and playing the football . super skip is on fire , roughing up anyone who wants it , jj corrall is floating past players with ease , liam derry is on the ball getting the passes going . then the big team goal comes ! grant hargrave tackles the player , lays it to liam derry , a 1, 2 , with skip lets him ping a beauty out to jj corrall , he shimmys , drops a shoulder , the crowd go the wrong way never mind the goalie , and he slots in his debut goal . sorrel react with agression , the tackles are flying in . but this is the sort of game big adam and diddy david vyce . they respond with power , grant carries on banging it back , scott is huge in the centre of the defence . we're looking comfy but then there is a tactical masterstroke . the manager sends miten mistry on to create mayhem . with super skip patrolling the middle alone , liam derry is released to the right side , diddy dave backing him up . big adam garrett feeding jj down the left . big blake sarjo hooks up with miten up front . its all about pace and power as the bu boys move it about . typical ball winning from the back four gets super skip on the ball , a decoy run from blake gets liam on the ball , he slots it through to miten " mayhem " mistry , he flicks it up , turns , and whacks it into the top corner drogba style !
fantastic way to finish the game and well deserved .

Shepshed v BU (28 Oct 07)

On the back of a bad defeat, we were looking for a reaction. The start helped, Shepshed were poor and BU were on them. Great move saw the ball falling to Dan Marlow to score. The pressure was on, Miten Mistry scoring, but it being disallowed, shots on goal that were cleared by our own players!! We should have been 4 up when a Dan Marlow run is broken up, the ball falls to Liam Dderry, who loops a 40 yarder over the keeper. With minutes to go to half time, sloppy defending allows a shock goal from the home team.

Half Time Shepshed 1 Birstall 2

A good talking to at half time seems to wake the boys up. A quick move, great through ball from Miten Mistry, lets Dan Marlow in to produce a cool finish. Adam Garrett, David Vyce and Liam Derry combine well to force a corner. Jason Corral whips it in, and you know who, Matty Walden powers in the header. Shepshed break through and Scott Draycott fouls the man. The referee sends him off, yet another shocking decision. The ref thinks he's the star, and continues to ruin a good game. But the 10 men are focused. A move starts from Blake Sargo in midfield, to Jason Corral, to win another corner. Guess what, Shepshed have learnt nothing. The ball goes into the box, and he does it again. Matty Walden smashes it into the net to silence the screaming home fans. The game is over, but the boys show spirit to play against the ref and the home linesman. Great attitude by the boys to close out the game.

Queniborough 9-1 Birstall (14 Oct 07)

Having missed a week because of a blank fixture, we start badly. A key player is missing, but 2 additions to the squad should help. A BU attack allows Matt Deacon to go close, but he's injured by the saving tackle. It looks bad and there is a flurry of activity around the player resulting in an ambulance arriving. While this is going on Queni score 4 goals! The BU boys are all over the place and Queni, the favourites to win the league are ruthless, and score 2 more .

Half Time 6 - 0

Time to re-organise helps the shape and a little bit of confidence. A disallowed goal causes mild concern and makes you wonder about the ridiculously lack lustre start. But the home team are on a high, running in 3 more, with only a Blake Sargo reply. Very bad day for the BU boys. They need to put it to one side, fight the even fights and chase for that 2nd spot, remembering how well we have done when we fight and chase and show that hunger.

Matt Deacon has damaged ankle ligaments and will be back after xmas .

Ratby 5-3 Bbirstall - County cup (30 Sep 07)

Well what a game !

The daunting task of playing a team 2 divisions higher, shows itself with a sluggish start. Within 10 mins, Ratby take the lead. Fielding the bare 11 due to injuries the Birstall boys begin to roll up their sleeves, with half time approaching, Ash Cockram and super skip Matt Walden interchange well creating a chance that Dan Marlow tucks into the net

Half time 1 - 1

Ratby come out flying, but confidence is high from the BU boys. Quality is showing from Ratby, and tiredness from BU. A brace of substitutes and 2 quick goals from Ratby seem to seal the tie in their favour. Although the boys look out on their feet, they push on forcing a corner. A great cross is finished off by super skip Matt Walden with a powerful header.
Well, the pressure has turned! It's all BU. With minutes to go, a great ball from Luke Shawley sends Miten Mistry away, who gets another corner. The big guns come, Grant Hargrave and Scott Draycott. But Ratby make the same mistake again, as they watch super skip Matty Walden fly in within another bullet into the roof of the net, and the final whistle goes.

David Vyce, Grant Hargrave, Adam Garrett, super skip and Ash Cockram, are all being sick with fatigue but still hang in there. Ratby have had a good talking to and are struggling to break the BU boys down. They throw on a final sub, and the fresh legs show. One goal either side of half time, in extra time, see off the gallant BU boys. The away fans applaud them at the end. A great credit to the club .

Whetstone v Birstall (23 Sep 07)

A good start to the match for both teams. A clash with the keeper, leaves Blake Sargeant needing treatment. An ambulance is called, and he is given the all clear. The game continues. Whetstone take the lead from some sloppy defending. Birstall reply immediately. A quick free kick releases Liam Derry down the wing , a pin point cross finds skipper Matt Walden , who heads powerfully into the net .

The 2nd half is very even . Birstall's play is inventive , but too many players are having an off day . Some strange decisions by the ref work in Birstall's favour, when he awards a penalty. Matt Walden confidently strikes the pen into the net .

Birstall Utd 1-0 Kegworth Imps (16 September 07)  
well , what an amazing game !
kegworth are bright and in form , they gradually make chance after chance . but birstall are hanging in there . the back four of adam garrett , grant hargrave , scoott draycott and tom pell , work hard helped by skipper matt walden and ash corkerum . the wide boys dan marlow and dave wright tuck in , with the front 2 , liam derry and miten mistry chasing down the back line .

blake sageant and david vyce are introduced to try and push on . birstall are fighting hard causing kegworth indiscipline . miten forces a foul thet leads to a pen , blake smashes it high into the net . this causes kegworth to chase the game . gaps appear but birstall dont take the opportunities . kegworth create chance after chance , but the boys stay strong . james " tug " turrell comes on to man mark and kill off the game , and birstall hold out for a great win .

Kingsway 1-2 Birstall Utd (12 September 07)  

A daunting game for the Birstall boys having drawn a team 2 divisions above them. The game starts with Kingsway showing the skill and confidence. But an attitude is developing from the BU boys and we begin to push them. Dan Marlow chases a ball, whips a cross over and Liam Derry scores a bullet header. Kingsway push and push, but to no avail.

Kingsway come out firing, pouring on the pressure. It's too much and Kingsway equalise. The BU boys are hanging in there. Then Ash Corkrum goes through, shoots, it goes over the line, but is disallowed. He argues and is sent off. The boys react superbly. A long kick forward is pounced on by Matt Walden, and he unleashes a rocket into the net.

Gaunt Youth 3-1 Birstall Utd (09 September 07)  

a bright sunday afternoon led to a great start . scott draycott slots home from a great team move . birstall pile on the pressure but fail to convert the chances .
half time 0-1

injuries to key players create confusion , and gaunt capitalise with an equaliser . the game then ebbs and flows . then the turning point . the keeper jason harrison slips at the goal kick , grant hargrave reacts well , but in the challenge the ball heads back to goal and agonisingly loops over the keeper . birstall chase the game and tiredness shows as a break away hands gaunt another . birstall continue to chase but time runs out .

Birstall Utd 3 -2 Enderby 2000 (2 Sep 07)

With a bright start by both teams , it looked a great start to the season . A good move involving Blake Sargeant and skipper Matt Walden , was finished off in style by Ash Cockeram . Within 10 minutes , Cockeram smashed another into the roof of the net .

Enderby came flying out of the blocks forcing 2 great saves from Jason Harrison , but the pressure told , and 2 goals were cancelled out quickly . Birstall regained their composure and began to make the running . Dan Marlow and matt deacon were bombing down the wings , Scott Draycott and Grant Hargrave were strong in defence . then with 10 minutes to go , an Ash Cockeram free kick was glanced in by Blake Sargeant for the winner .
