Birstall Utd 5 - 3 Blaby & Whetstone BC
(9 Oct 11)
With the lead changing hands four times Birstall came from behind twice to
earn a fantastic 5-3 win over Blaby & Whetstone.
Birstall took the lead when Tom Moule got to a rebound from Matt Joinson's free
kick to poke the ball past the keeper.
Two lapses of concentration saw Blaby equalise and then take the lead from set
pieces before half time.
With the elements behind them Birstall bossed the second half and a disputed
goal from Tom Wilkes brought the scores level again.
The home side continued to run the game but were made to pay for a string of
missed chances when Blaby counter attacke at pace to regain the lead.
With this coming against the run of play Blaby had a good few minutes of
possesion before Birstall eqaulised again through a first goal for Mitchell
Wright. It wasn't long before Mitchell ot his second and regained the lead for
Birstall.
The scoring was completed with Tom Wilkes getting his second to earn a fully
deserved win for Birstall.
There was some fantastic individual performances today lads but most pleasing
was the team performance and effort you put in to the second half performance.
Lutterworth Athletic JFC 1 - 3 Birstall
Utd JFC (2 Oct 11)
A comfortable 3-1 win for Birstall saw them through to the next round of the
County Cup.
A stunning 25 yard free kick from Matt Garner after 10 minutes broke the
deadlock. Tom Moule scored the second before half time.
On a very hot afternoon Birstall played the ball about leaving Lutterworth
chasing the ball. The second half was totally controlled by the visitors keeping
the home side to long balls and quick counter attacks.
It was from a rare visit into the Birstall box that a cross was turned home by a
Birstall defender. This lifted the home side and Birstall had to and did raise
their game again.
Putting a bit of directivity into their passing game Birstall created several
chances before Tom Moule scored his second of the afternoon to complete the
scoring.
Anstey Swifts 1 Birstall United 13 (13
Sep 2011)
The first round of the League Cup threw up a local derby with Birstall
travelling to neighbours Anstey Swifts.
On a tight pitch Birstall started brightly and went ahead after two minutes
through Dan Rudkin. 10 minutes later the Anstey keeper launched the ball
forward, with the Birstall defence allowing it to bounce an Anstey striker got a
head to the ball and lifted it over keeper Max Lewin to equalise.
Anstey used the long ball to cause Birstall problems in defence but it was the
visitors who were the most clinical. Joe Dolby scored to regain the lead with
Ismatullah Alizada and Tom Moule scoring before half time.
The second half was one way traffic with Birstall totally in control keeping
Anstey restricted to long range shots. Tom Moule and Joe Dolby both scored twice
to complete their hat tricks, Alizada and Rudkin both scored a second, Matt
Garner scored after hitting the woodwork four times, Mat Joinson scored his
first of the season and Tom Wilkes scored his first for the club.
It was a heavy defeat but the Anstey lads were still playing with their heads up
till the last minute.
Birstall Utd 4 Houghton Rangers 2 (18
Sep 11)
A solid performance saw Birstall come out on top against a quick and strong
Houghton team.
After a shaky start Birstall finally started playing the football they are
capable of and getting in behind the visitors defence. The first goal came when
Adam Ward picked the ball up and drove forward into the Houghton half. Just as
he was about to be closed down by the defenders Adam let go of a fierce shot
that flew over the keeper and dipped in under the bar.
The rest of the first half belonged to the home side and they doubled their lead
when a corner from Joe Holland was met at the back post by Tom Moule.
The visitors were givena lifeline midway through the second half when when
keeper Max Lewin was judged to have brought down a Houghton striker in the box.
The game ebbed and flowed and with the game equally balanced Birstall were
awarded a penalty of their own for handball. Up stepped Joe Beattie to score his
third of the season. Houghton never gave up and scored a goal of high quality to
reduce the gap to one goal again.
This late goal spurred on the home side and a flowing move down the right wing
ended with a cross being headed in by Tom Wilkes to complete the scoring.
Hinckley United Colts 1 Birstall United
2 (11 Sep 11)
Birstall kicked of the game with all the elements behind them. The pitch had a
slope like the infamous Yeovil pitch and a strong wind that blew straight down
it. With this all against them the home side packed out the defence and hit the
visitors on the occassional counter attack.
The first half was wave after wave of Birstall pressure but they were unable to
find a way through a packed home defence and the score remained goal less at
half time.
The second half was a much more open match with the home side coming at the
visitors.
With the elements against them Birstall's passing game worked better with the
ball being held up and space being found behind the home defence. Despite having
the better of the match and clearer chances Birstall fell behind to a penalty
midway through the second half.
The visitors began chasing the game and Hinckley had a couple of chances to
increase their lead before Adam Ward was unceremoniously dumped to the floor in
the penalty area. Joe Beattie stepped up to bury the peanlty past the Hinckley
goalkeeper and level the game.
This was the least Birstall deserved and they created several more chances
before Matt Garner flashed a shot into the net for a deserved winner.
Birstall Utd JFC 2-4 Coalville Town (5
Sep 11)
Birstall lost the first game of their season 4-2 to a big, strong and well
organised Coalville Town.
The visitors came flying out of the blocks and their nquick direct football
caused Birstall all kinds of problems. Coalville went into a deserved two goal
lead half way through the first half and Birstall appeared out of the game.
The home side pulled a goal back before half time when Joe Dolby scored his
first for the team from close range
Coalville were put under a bit of pressure for the rest of the half and Birstall
continued to boss the start of the second half.
Calum McChrystal put in a fantastic personal performance and was rewarded when
he put in a defence splitting ball for Joe Beattie to run onto. Beattie
controlled the ball beautifully but was brought down by the defender in the
penalty area. Beattie took the penalty burying the ball in the top corner to
score his first goal for the club.
Coalville hit straight back and scored a third whilst Birstall were still on a
high. The home side were thankful to Max Lewin and some poor finishing from the
visitors before they scored their fourth as Birstall were chasing the equaliser.
