Match Reports

Under 14s 2-1 Westfield Spartans

For the ninth time this season a single victory saw Birstall Utd end their season with a 2-1 win over visitors Westfield Spartans & clinch third place in Division B.

The home side came flying out of the blocks & created several good chances to take the lead but all they had to show for their efforts was a Brad Parker goal. Westfields with nothing to play for really gave Birstall a tough game but were restricted to shooting from distance.

The home side controlled the second half but again could not finish their chances. As the half went on Westfields really came into the game & nearly equalised but a finger tip save by Max Lewin, which saw the ball hit the post & roll back across the goal.

In the first minute of injury time Westfields did get the goal their performance deserved but Birstall kept their heads & Brad Parker was put in behind the defence to score his second & the winning goal. Heartbreaking for the visitors but just what the home side deserved.

Highfield Rangers 3-0 Under 14s

Birstall United travelled to league champions Highfield Rangers, who had not dropped a point all season.

Highfields got off to a flying start when they made the most a hole the size of the grand canyon in Birstall's defence to score in the first minute. Despite this set back Birstall kept their heads up & actually had the best of the first half. The defence kept the home side at bay with ease & the midfielders & forwards created chance after chance, but due to some fine goalkeeping & weak finishing a goal wouldn't come.

The second half started with Birstall, who came flying out of the blocks, being hit with a second sucker punch in the first few minutes to go two down.

The second half was more even with Highfields showing how they have gone the whole season unbeaten & Birstall showing they deserve to finish in the top three, a point against Westfields will guarantee that.

With Birstall pushing for a goal their performance deserved Highfields put the game out of reach in the third minute of added on time to give the final score a very harsh looking 3-0.

Harborough Town 2-0 Birstall United (18 Apt 10)

Two second half goals saw Harborough Town beat Birstall United 2-0.

In a repeat of the midweek fixture Harborough were the more clinical side in what was a very good game of football.

Birstall United 2-6 Harborough Town (14 Apt 10)

Harborough Town visited Birstall United & went away with a 6-2 victory.

Despite the score Birstall put in a good performance but were unable to take their chances unlike the visitors. Harborough were big, strong & well organised & well worth their win.

Matt Joinson scored his first goal of the season & Joe Slater scored for the second game in a row to no avail as it was the wasted chances that again hurt the home side most.

Birstall United 2-1 Barwell (11 Apt 10)

Another closely contested game between Birstall United & Barwell ended with a 2-1 victory for Birstall.

After a first half that was edged by the visitors had ended goalless, Birstall finally got going & finished the chances they created. First Jack Moran & then Joe Slater scored to give Birstall a two goal lead.

Barwell scored from a twice taken penalty to set up a nervy end to the game.

Both sides played their football to the end & another even game was decided by a single goal.

Barwell 1-0 Birstall United (Wednesday 7 Apr 10)

Despite going into the game on the back of five straight wins Birstall, still short on numbers, never got going. They fell behind to a goal scored from an early corner & did not really put the home side under any pressure until the last 10 minutes

Birstall United kept up their good form with a 4-2 win over Oadby Owls. (28 Mar 10)

Despite only having 10 men Birstall were the stronger team in the first half & took a deserved goal lead into half time. The goal came from Brad Parker who finished from the tightest of angles.

The home side doubled their lead 10 minutes into the second half through Matt Garner. With Birstall tiring Oadby piled on the pressure & got back into the game before scoring a last minute equaliser.

This spurred Birstall on & they went on to score two goals in two minutes of injury time. Firstly a cleared free kick was knocked back into the danger area where Tom Moule volleyed the ball in to the top corner. The fourth goal came with the move of the match. Winning the ball in defence Tom Moule found Matt Garner who put in Brad Parker from the half way line. Brad Broke past the line of defenders before rounding the keeper to complete the scoring.

Under 14s  3-2 Ibstock (14 Mar)

Despite going behind to an early goal Birstall completed the double over Ibstock with a 3-2 win.

Ibstock scored from a corner & nearly doubled their lead before Birstall even got up a head of steam.

Joe Slater headed in the equaliser before Matt Garner gave Birstall the lead.

Going into the second half the home side were the stronger team but could not finish any of the chances they created. This kept the game on a knife edge as Ibstock were dangerous on the quick breaks.

Nerves were finally settled when Jack Moran scored the third before the visitors scored .a late consolation.

Another very equal game in a very competitive league.

Houghton Rangers 1-2 Under 14s (21 Mar 10)

A goal in each half saw Birstall United win 2-1 against Houghton Rangers.

A corner from Matt Garner was clipped in by Brad Parker for his first goal. Houghton then drew level before Brad Parker was neatly put through and finished well past a helpless keeper.

A well fought win from Birstall.

Under 14s 2-1 Kirby Muxloe 88 (7 Mar 10)

A set piece goal in each half saw Birstall united beat Kirby Muxloe 88 by the odd goal for the second week running.

As in the first fixture both teams played out a very competitive match in the right manner.

Joe Holland broke the deadlock in the first half with a free kick from the edge of the area. Both sides created chances without really testing the keepers before Kirby broke through to equalise before half time.

Birstall edged the second half & Tom Moule scored the winner with a header from Matt Joinson's free kick.

Kirby Muxloe 2-3 Under 14s (28 Feb 10)

On a wet & heavy pitch Kirby Muxloe Juniors entertained Birstall United with both teams providing a five goal thriller. The game swayed both ways with the winning goal coming in the last minute but even then Kirby forced a succession of corners.

The visitors had the best of the opening minutes & broke the deadlock when Joe Slater got on to the end of a Brad Parker flick on to bury the ball in the bottom corner.

Birstall created several chances which they couldn't take & were punished when Kirby equalised & nearly took the lead when they hit the post with the ball bouncing back into keeper Max Lewin's hands. Half time came with the home side on top but no further scoring.

The second half started with Birstall playing some lovely football & creating chances but Kirby were dangerous on the quick counter attack.

Brad Parker scored the second after breaking through to beat the keeper before Kirby equalised again with five minutes left.

With the draw looking a safe bet Jack Moran scored a superb individual goal to win the game 3-2 for Birstall.

Aylestone Park 94 3-0 Under 14s (7 Feb 10)

Despite creating more chances, especially in the first half, than the league leaders Birstall were beaten three nil at Aylestone Park 94.

With the first goal completely against the run of play the second with the last kick of the half knocked the stuffing out of Birstall. Making the changes had exactly the same affect on the game with chances coming & going. The leaders were the more confident side but Birstall kept battling but wouldn't have scored if we played all night.

Ibstock 3-4 Under 14s (24 Jan)

After a start stop period of football Birstall United put in a start stop performance to beat Ibstock United 4-3. Despite taking a three goal lead they needed a late goal to secure the win

The visitors got off to a flying start & took a three goal lead in the first 20 minutes. Brad Parker led the way with two goals that allowed Birstall to settle down & play a period of neat football. This ended with the move of the match when Joe Holland won the ball in midfield & broke quickly to put Matt Garner clear on the left, he beat the defender & put in a superb cross to find Tom Roalfe who scored the third with a bullet header.

This stirred the home side who took the game to Birstall & incredibly fought back to level the score.

Birstall then started to create & miss some glorious chances before Matt Garner beat the keeper from close range to secure the win.

Ibstock carved out two glorious chances but were unable to convert.

Aylestone Park 13 - 3 Under 14s (20 Dec 09)

Despite suffering a very heavy defeat at Aylestone Park the ten men of Birstall United kept their heads up & played football to the very last minute.

On a frozen pitch, short in numbers & a goal behind in the first minute it looked as bleak as the weather for the visitors.

Keeping their heads up Birstall battled back back to equalise through Matt Garner.

Facing a classy Aylestone team who set up wave after wave of attacks it was a back to the wall performance for the visitors. Max Lewin had a good game in goal but was still unable to prevent Aylestone scoring 13 while at the other end Matt Garner & the rest of his team mates kept going for him to complete a hat trick.

Well played to Aylestone but well done for the Birstall lads for keeping their heads up.

 Whetstone 3-3 Under 14s (13 Dec 09)

A depleted Birstall side came from two down to earn a creditable 3-3 draw at Whetstone Juniors. Despite holding the lead throughout the game Whetstone were denied the win, when Jacob Elliott rose to meet a last minute corner & beat the keeper with a firm header.

Birstall put in a poor first half show & deservedly went in two goals down at half time. A different team came out for the second half & within 10 minutes were level.

First Brad Parker held off the defender to beat the keeper from the edge of the area & then Jack Moran scored, his first for the club, from the spot to level the game.

Whetstone scored late on before Elliott popped up to level the scores.

Under 14s 3-2 Aylestone Park 94 (8 No 09)

A hat trick for Brad Parker saw Birstall come from two goals down to beat league leaders Aylestone Park 94 3-2

Under 14s 3-2 Houghton Rangers

Birstall finally got their first league win of the season against Houghton Rangers. Birstall put the visitors under immediate pressure & took the lead from a third minute corner which Matt Garner buried with a ferocious shot.

With the pressure off Birstall played some lovely football but fell to a sucker punch just before half time. A long kick from the goalkeeper bounced once with a Houghton head getting onto & nipping the ball over advancing keeper Max Lewin.

The second half saw Birstall again having most of the possession & creating a lot of half chances before Tom Roalfe put them back in front & Ryan Orchard got the third.

The last few minutes were made nervy when another massive goal kick ended with a flick into the back of the net to leave Birstall hanging on for a 3-2 win.

Under 14s 7 -3 Loughborough FC Youth (16 Sep 09 League Cup)

Birstall got off to a flying start with two goals in the first five minutes. The first goal was scored by Ryan Orchard with his cross shot flying into the top corner from a very tight angle. This was quickly followed by a second goal scored by Brad Parker.

Despite creating numerous chances the home side could not increase their lead until Brad scored his second early in the second half. Matt Garner then scored his first of the season before Loughborough scored & Matt scored his second.

Ryan scored a second before Loughborough scored two breakaway goals with the scoring being completed by Tom Moule scoring his debut goal for the club & give Birstall their first win of the season 7-3.

Special mention to TJ who had a cracking game.

Under 14s v Whetstone Juniors (6 Sep 09)

Birstall put in a disjointed performance against Whetstone in the first game of the season. Two goals in each half saw Whetstone win 4-0.
Wednesday nights game at Highfields can't come quickly enough to hopefully put this behind us and move forward.

Highfield Rangers v Under 14s (10 Sep 09)

A much improved performance saw Birstall lose to the odd goal in nine at Highfield Rangers.

With the game kicking off 40 minutes late Birstall quickly into their stride but it was the home side who scored two goals in two minutes midway through the first half.

The game then became the Joe Holland show with Joe scoring his first after a mazy run & one two in the penalty area with Brad Parker & then finding the back of the net with a bullet header from a cross from Brad to level the game.

Highfields retook the lead before half time but substitute Joe Slater got on the end of a Ryan Orchard cross to equalise again.

Two lapses of concentration, in very poor light, let Highfields regain the initiative again before Brad scored his debut goal for the club with 10 minutes to go to put Birstall back in command of the see saw game.

Due to the failing light & the home side under the cosh the HOME referee called the game off with five minutes to go.
